Framed British Rail Devon poster
Framed original 1950s British Rail travel poster promoting Devon by rail. The artwork is by Jack Merriott (1901-1968), who provided artwork for many of the British Rail promotional posters. He was a renowned landscape and portrait artist, working in both oils and watercolour. Below the image the text reads “Published by the Railway Executive (western region) (P.W.64)” and “printed in Great Britain – Jordison & Co. Ltd., London and Middlesbrough”.
The poster is slightly faded - in particular the old British Railways logo is very faded from the original red colour, but still visible at the bottom of the poster - and shows some minor discolouration and age marks. The centre vertical crease and three horizontal creases are visible on close inspection.
