Melinda Perham: ‘Katherine & Lucy Jane’ 1978

£350 - Now Sold

A charming naïve style painting of landing the herring catch in Clovelly, North Devon. The artist, Melinda Perham, was married to the harbourmaster in Clovelly, and a very vocal supporter of the fishing tradition there, and particularly the efforts to preserve their way of life in the face of the threat that arose from the new large-scale industrial fishing boats when she was painting in the 1970s. Many of her paintings are of local history, and specifically the challenges faced by the fishermen and their families.

This is an acrylic on board in the original, simple wood frame, and signed by the artist.
